Mykola Yaroshenko was a Ukrainian genre painter known for his realistic and emotional depictions of everyday life. Born in Poltava, Ukraine, in 1846, Yaroshenko studied at the Imperial Academy of Arts in Saint Petersburg, where he was influenced by the realist movement. He became a member of the Peredvizhniki, a group of Russian realist painters who sought to promote national identity and social justice through their art.
Yaroshenko's paintings often depicted scenes from peasant life, as well as historical events and social issues. He was particularly known for his sensitive portrayal of women and children, and his ability to capture the emotions of his subjects. His work is characterized by its rich colors, expressive brushwork, and attention to detail.
Yaroshenko died in Kislovodsk, Russia, in 1898. His work can be found in museums around the world, including the Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the Russian Museum in Saint Petersburg, and the National Art Museum of Ukraine in Kyiv.
