Betrayal

Alice is betrayed by her husband, who turns her over to her captors. She is also betrayed by her parents, who refuse to believe that she has been kidnapped. This betrayal leads Alice to feel isolated and alone.

Sacrifice

Alice sacrifices her freedom and her sanity in order to survive her captivity. She is forced to endure unimaginable horrors, but she never gives up hope. Alice's sacrifice is a testament to the strength of the human spirit.

Redemption

After Alice is rescued, she struggles to come to terms with her experience. She is haunted by memories of her captivity, and she has difficulty readjusting to normal life. However, Alice eventually finds redemption through her work as a counselor for other victims of trauma. She helps others to heal from their wounds, and she finds a new purpose in life.

Of American Martyrs is a powerful and moving novel that explores the dark side of the human experience. However, it is also a story of hope and redemption. Alice's story is a reminder that even in the darkest of times, the human spirit can prevail.
